Shepherd’s Purse Theatre Company has been Tyalgum’s multi award winning Community theatre troupe which presents an annual Shakespeare production every year since 2015, presented at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe as an immersive Dinner Theatre evening.

Past productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, The Taming of the Shrew.

In 2022 Shepherd’s Purse was the recipient of the Platinum Palm Award at the Gold Palm (Gold Coast) Theatre Awards for Outstanding Service to the Theatrical Community.

As a result of the devastating floods that hit the Northern Rivers in 2022, cutting off the town’s main access - Tyalgum Road - Shepherds Purse found a way to boost local business and lift community spirits by gaining the rights for ‘Shakespeare In Love’, based on the Oscar winning film. This was staged at Flutterbies Cottage Cafe over three incredible nights in July 2023, and became the NSW Premiere production and the Australian Community Theatre premiere. With a cast of over 30 actors, musicians and choir singers, the production morphed into a grand community event, which went on to receive rave reviews in Stage Whispers and ultimately Tweed Shire Council’s Award for ‘Community Event of the Year’. 

This production was also nominated for 8 Gold Palm Theatre Awards and won the Gold Palm Theatre Award for Best Costumes.
